The Kaduna State House of Assembly has said it will intervene on the issue of non-payment of pension of the retired Local Government workers in the State.
The Speaker, State House of Assembly, Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani, while receiving State Executives of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), under the leadership of Comrade Rayanu Isyaku Turunku, during a courtesy visit reiterated that the House will initiate action to investigate the problem.
He directed NULGE to make formal submission to the House Committee on pension over the issue.
Honourable Yusuf Zailani said the House will work with NULGE toward achieving government reform programs to improve the lives of workers and the rural populace.
He charged the union to put its house in order, adding that the House has respect for the elected leaders of the union and rule of law, while those who have lost out should embrace the spirit of good sportsmanship.
He also solicited the support of the people of Kaduna State, especially Muslim and Christian clerics, in tackling the problem of insecurity in the State as no meaningful achievement can be recorded without security and enabling environment.
Earlier, the State President of NULGE, Comrade Rayanu Isyaku Turunku, expressed concern over the non-settlement of the pension and other entitlements of the retired Local Government workers.
He then appealed to the Speaker and the State House of Assembly to intervene in the matter to alleviate the suffering of the affected staff and their families.
Comrade Rayanu, who congratulated the Speaker for his election, commended Governor Nasiru El-Rufai and the State Assembly for putting the welfare of workers on the front banner of their programs, assuring that the workers would reciprocate through hard work and dedication.
