My Women Crush today are two amazing women, Oluwafunmilayo Durojaiye and Victoria Olofin, I can’t emphatically say I know everything about them, but the sides I have seen is enough for me. I support every cause that has to deal with reaching out to people and providing a service to people in dire need of it but who can’t afford it, and the two amazing women I want to talk about have done their little bit in making the world a little better. PS, This does not mean If as a woman you’re doing your bit and not recognised, that God does not see you, he does, your reward is at hand, just keep doing you, and a much bigger platform than mine would reference you (that’s if it’s your goal)…
I first Met Funmi In UNAD, that year in RCF, and what struck me was her down to earth demeanour, she had just been appointed as the assistant women coordinator I think (or was it the main coordinator at once), all join, The title of ‘’Mummy’’ was all the same conferred on her. The unique thing about her was her cool PH swags, she’s Yoruba yes, but at first glance you surely would have that omo-ibo vibe about her, and that was her selling point, she was cool like that…We kinda were not close, but I sure had this respect for her as I watched her go about her ‘’Mummy’’ duties in RCF that year, am pretty sure the women enjoyed her that year.
I believe caring comes naturally, but Mother Theresa caring status takes a lot, she has that. Can never forget one time I met her in Easy Lodge, The hostel Unit allocated to RCF student pastors that year, I had just come back from school and I wanted to check in on my friends who stayed in the hostel too, but who weren’t in. On my way out, I saw her somehow, and I literally put it to her, Mummy you might not know me ooo, but I attend RCF and I am hungry as it is, She replied and said, An ah, Who doesn’t know our fine usher, oya wait am coming, Lo and Behold, I left that place with wrapped Eba and Egusi soup (Choi, I could not believe my luck)…Years later, I wasn’t surprised when I saw on her facebook page that she was planning a cause to help provide school uniforms for children in her area, I sharply buzzed her and signified my interest to participate, sad I could do so little cause of my location, well am doing this here, and posting it on my work site www.wstreams.com, more people need to align with this virtuous woman, her next project is this January I believe, her’s is a good cause I subscribe to, God bless you Mummy.
Victoria Ovigold as she’s popularly called is another, even if I just met her recently, I know she has a good and loving heart, I might not know her origin likewise, but her random acts of kindness have endeared her in my heart, she’s another Mother Theresa in the making too. We met in my third outreach with Lagos Food Bank, and the area we visited then was Agege. It was the first time I took my camera with me to add to my volunteer duties by taking pictures of the outreach. Was a tough one for me as I was still fumbling with the settings and all. As a photographer volunteer, you’re expected to take not less than 500 pictures, so ya’ll can imagine how stressful it was on my professional debut. One thing about photography is knowing the right angles and concepts in your mind you try to actualize when you shoot, not easy yes, but so much fun. After taking about a million pictures of different people, Victoria calmly tapped me and said Well-done ooo, has anyone even taken a picture of you yet ?, Not knowing she had already taken about two shots of me on her phone which she sent to me later…I sha gave my camera to someone to take a few shots of me, Then we exchanged numbers as I promised to get her pictures across to her.
The standout feature she had was when she buzzed me after the outreach as she sent the pictures she took of me and commended me for my job and said I should send her pictures when I could, That was a good one in my opinion, as after that I was expecting the communication to stop as usual (I didn’t want any situations arising like talks of ‘’ Is it cos you took my pictures, that’s why I owe you a chat and all-Believe me, such people dey, even had one who I buzzed and said. ‘’Hi, Bassey from the outreach, here are your pictures, enjoy, Till today, no acknowledgement, but she saved all the pictures ooo, lmao)…Happy To know Ovigold wasn’t like that, as we got talking, and I got to know she’s a key member of the Wuraola Foundation, who cater to young girls and try to provide basic amenities to them. Was to be at their outreach to help with pictures, but work wouldn’t allow me, So here I am doing my bit in supporting another good cause.
If you’re still wondering what the #CAREVILLE movement is about, This is it. I just decided in my heart to be a blessing to people, by inspiring them with write-ups of my experiences and of others like the two amazing women above, I believe we can’t change the world at once, but we can do our bit. If we learn to treat our neighbours like we treat our siblings, Nigeria and the world would be better off. As a young man or woman, If you can’t boast of a single act of chivalry or humanitarian activity, what can you boast of ?. I try to keep my acts and talks Religion free, doesn’t mean I won’t beat my chest anywhere and say ‘’Am a Christian’’…Thing is I don’t need to be a Christian or Muslim before I reach out to people, I’m a human being first is what I always say.
If anything I have said today has pulled a care cord in your heart, don’t bury it, let it flow and yield fruits, there are many other causes you can align with and do your bit, You have old clothes you are not wearing anymore, believe me there are people out there who need them, you have a desire to clothe kids or provide sanitary pads for teenage girls, CLOTHE A CHILD and WURAOLA FOUNDATION are good places to start, Buzz me for their details…Like I always say, God loves you, Show that love to someone else too, Your blessed so that you can be a blessing to someone else too, One care can change the world…cheers !
